About Business Currency Guide
Why we started
Business Currency Guide began in 2019 after our founders—two former treasury analysts and a payments engineer—kept meeting finance teams who were paying too much to move money across borders. Not because they hadn't done their homework, but because the information they needed was scattered across bank PDFs, forum threads, and sales calls. We thought a plain, independent guide could fix that. So we wrote one. Then we kept writing.
What we do
We publish research and practical guides on foreign exchange, currency risk, and conversion costs for businesses. That means:
- Benchmarking what banks and brokers actually charge, using published fee schedules and our own test transactions.
- Explaining hedging tools—forwards, options, natural hedges—in language a CFO can act on, not just a trader.
- Tracking regulatory changes (like the FSB's FX Global Code updates) and what they mean for smaller companies.
We don't sell currency, we don't run a brokerage, and we don't take referral fees from providers. Our only product is the guide.
How we work
Every article goes through the same process: a researcher drafts it, a second person checks the numbers against primary sources, and a third edits for clarity. If we can't verify a claim, we say so or leave it out. We date every page and note when a rate or rule might have changed.
We also run a small test account with several providers to compare real conversion costs. That data feeds our annual cost index, which we publish for free.
Who we are
Our team of five has spent a combined 40 years in corporate treasury, payments, and financial journalism. We're not trying to be the biggest site; we're trying to be the one finance teams bookmark.
- Maya Chen, Editor – former FX risk manager at a mid-sized manufacturer.
- David Okafor, Research Lead – payments engineer who built our cost index.
- Priya Nair, Staff Writer – covered fintech for a trade publication before joining us.
What we won't do
We won't recommend a specific provider unless we've tested it and disclosed any relationship. We won't publish sponsored content that looks like our editorial. And we won't pretend currency risk is simple—it isn't, and we'd rather explain the messy parts.
How we're funded
We make money from a paid newsletter and from workshops we run for finance teams. That's it. No ads, no lead-gen. If that changes, we'll say so here first.
